I was in an 829-year-old castle a few days ago.
And now I am home, tucked back into comfort.
On the plane home, I wrote this:
“You are the castle. You have rooms to be uncovered, updated, freshened up. Vast treasures in hidden corners and secret stairways. The castle often has scars from the battles and now we see the miracles in the torn tattered wallpaper, the grooves in the wooden floors.
Every room is a story, a victory of looking into your past to call forward the history so you can use it today. Nothing is wasted, every artifact is a golden thread paving the way to your purpose. The one only YOU can live. You are the castle.”

My battles have been mighty… I bet yours have as well.
Losing my counseling career after a lawsuit in 2003. It nearly broke me. I thought of ending everything. But I followed my passion and started over in coaching, finding my way, room by room.
Going through a divorce in 2011. Now I know many of us have experienced this and survived. But we also know the deep wounds, the financial devastation, the battering to our self-esteem.
Hitting rock bottom with my drinking career in 2013. Realizing that I was trapped in a downward staircase towards more destruction… I stepped off the stairs and walked into the rooms of recovery and never left. A decade of days strung together.
Creating a national association then knowing it was time to leave, and walking the courageous path of selling it in 2017. Trusting myself. Leaning into the unknown. Allowing God to do what He does best….miracles.
You are the castle. Your story is why THEY hire you.
